The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to the collapse of building in Mumbai’s Dongri.
“Collapse of a building in Mumbai’s Dongri is anguishing. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I hope the injured recover soon. Maharashtra Government, NDRF and local authorities are working on rescue operations & assisting those in need”, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his Jayanti.
“I bow to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his Jayanti. He was a stalwart who committed himself towards ensuring India is free and leads a life of dignity. We are committed to fulfilling his ideals and creating a strong India”, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of Former Delhi Chief Minister Shri Madan Lal Khurana.
The Prime Minister said, “Anguished by the passing away of Shri Madan Lal Khurana Ji. He worked tirelessly for the progress of Delhi, particularly towards ensuring better infrastructure. He distinguished himself as a hardworking and people-friendly administrator, both in the Delhi government and Centre.
Shri Madan Lal KhuranaJi will always be remembered for the manner in which he strengthened the BJP in Delhi. He made unwavering efforts towards serving the post-partition refugees in Delhi. My thoughts and solidarity with his family and supporters”.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has condoled the loss of lives due to train accident in Amritsar.
“Extremely saddened by the train accident in Amritsar. The tragedy is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and I pray that the injured recover quickly. Have asked officials to provide immediate assistance that is required”, The the Prime Minister tweeted.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of veteran journalist and former Rajya Sabha member, Kuldip Nayar.
“Kuldip Nayar was an intellectual giant of our times. Frank and fearless in his views, his work spanned across many decades. His strong stand against the Emergency, public service and commitment to a better India will always be remembered. Saddened by his demise. My condolences”, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“मैं नि:शब्द हूं, शून्य में हूं, लेकिन भावनाओं का ज्वार उमड़ रहा है। हम सभी के श्रद्धेय अटल जी हमारे बीच नहीं रहे। अपने जीवन का प्रत्येक पल उन्होंने राष्ट्र को समर्पित कर दिया था। उनका जाना, एक युग का अंत है।
लेकिन वो हमें कहकर गए हैं- “मौत की उमर क्या है? दो पल भी नहीं, ज़िन्दगी सिलसिला, आज कल की नहीं मैं जी भर जिया, मैं मन से मरूं, लौटकर आऊँगा, कूच से क्यों डरूं?”

Earlier All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi issued a Press Release informing that the Former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away at 05:05pm today.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of Shri Balramji Dass Tandon, the Governor of Chhattisgarh.
“Saddened by the demise of Shri Balramji Dass Tandon, the Governor of Chhattisgarh. We have lost a widely respected public figure whose service to society will always be remembered. My thoughts are with his family and well-wishers in this hour of grief.
Shri Balramji Dass Tandon spent decades working for peace and progress in Punjab. Passionate about sectors like industry and labour welfare, his administrative experience added great value to the state. He will be remembered for his courage while opposing the Emergency”, the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of former Member of Parliament and Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Somnath Chatterjee.
“Former MP and Speaker Shri Somnath Chatterjee was a stalwart of Indian politics. He made our Parliamentary democracy richer and was a strong voice for the well-being of the poor and vulnerable. Anguished by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and supporters’’, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of V.S. Naipaul.
“Sir VS Naipaul will be remembered for his extensive works, which covered diverse subjects ranging from history, culture, colonialism, politics and more. His passing away is a major loss to the world of literature. Condolences to his family and well wishers in this sad hour” , the Prime Minister said.
The Union Cabinet met under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and condoled the demise of Dr. M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who passed away on 7.8.2018 at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.
The Cabinet observed two-minute silence in his memory and passed a condolence resolution. The text of resolution is as follows:
“The Cabinet expresses profound sorrow at the sad demise of Dr. M, Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 7.8.2018 at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai. In his death, the country has lost a veteran and distinguished leader, affectionately called “Kalaignar”.
He was born in Thirukkuvalai village in Nagapattinam District on 3rd June, 1924. He had held various important positions in his public and political life during his long career in Tamil Nadu political arena. He entered Tamil Nadu Assembly winning Kulithalai seat in the 1957 elections at the age of 33. He became a Minister in Tamil Nadu Government in 1967 and then rose to become the Chief Minister of the State for the first time in 1969. He held the position as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu five times.
Apart from his political life and career, he has been very popular screenwriter in Tamil cinema. He used medium of cinema for propagating the ideals of the Dravidian movement. Dr. M. Karunanidhi was also famous for his writing and oratorical skills. His contribution to Tamil literature has been profound and prolific covering a wide range i.e. poems, screenplays, novels, biographies, stage-plays, dialogues and movie songs.
In his death, people of Tamil Nadu have lost their popular leader.
The Cabinet extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as well as the people of Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Government and the entire nation.
