प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने 24 बच्चों को राष्ट्रीय वीरता पुरस्कार 2014 प्रदान किए।
इस अवसर पर प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि इन बच्चों के साहसिक कार्यों से यह सिद्ध होता है कि हम सबको ईश्वर ने ऐसी कोई शक्ति प्रदान की है, जो हमें दूसरों के लिए जीने को प्रेरित करती है। उन्होंने कहा कि सभी को दूसरों के लिए मरने का मौका नहीं मिलता, लेकिन दूसरों के लिए जीने का अवसर सबके पास होता है। हालांकि वास्तव में कुछ बिरले ऐसे कार्य कर पाते हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने इन वीर बच्चों की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहा कि इन्होंने परिणाम की चिंता किए बिना विपरीत परिस्थितियों में भी साहस का परिचय दिया। श्री मोदी ने कहा कि इन साहसी बच्चों के कार्यों की ‘सबसे बड़ी सुन्दरता’ यह है कि विपरीत हालात भी इन्हें साहस के साथ कार्य करने से नहीं रोक सके और इन कार्यों को करते हुए इन्होंने समाज के अन्य लोगों को भी प्रेरणा दी।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि इन बच्चों की बड़ी जिम्मेदारी तो अब शुरू होती है। इन बच्चों से बातचीत के दौरान श्री मोदी ने कहा कि सफलता और प्रसिद्धि का शिखर फिसलन भरा होता है और इस पर बने रहने के लिए आत्मसंयम बनाए रखना बेहद जरूरी होता है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने इन बच्चों को सुझाव दिया कि वे अपने लक्ष्यों और सपनों को पूरा करने के लिए लगातार (बिना थके, बिना रूके, बिना झुके) काम करें।
इस अवसर पर महिला और बाल विकास मंत्री श्रीमती मेनका गांधी भी उपस्थित थीं।
राष्ट्रीय वीरता पुरस्कार योजना की शुरूआत साहसी बच्चों के कार्यों को पहचान देने के लिए आईसीसीडब्ल्यू द्वारा की गई थी, ताकि असाधारण और विशिष्ट कार्य करने वालों के उदाहरण से दूसरों को भी प्रेरणा मिल सके।
