Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Mr. Kashim Shettima Mustapha, GCON, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. Vice President Kashim Shettima Mustapha, GCON is heading the Nigerian Delegation to the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The delegation comprises several ministers including, Ministers of Foreign Affairs; Industry, Trade & Investment; Communication Innovation & Digital Technology; Humanitarian Affairs & Poverty Reduction, Women Affairs; and Science and Technology.
Both leaders reviewed the multifaceted India-Nigeria relationship and expressed satisfaction at the steady progress across diverse sectors. The discussion focussed on key areas including trade & investment, defence & security, energy partnership, agriculture, health, and digital technologies. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India-Nigeria Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Modi and Vice President Shettima Mustapha also exchanged views on regional and global matters of mutual interest, including priorities and concerns of the Global South. They emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in multilateral fora and working together towards a more representative, inclusive and multi-polar international order.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s continued commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria and to deepening India’s engagement with Africa. Vice President Shettima Mustafa appreciated India’s development experience and its contribution to capacity building and economic development in Nigeria.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Nigeria to building a stronger, forward-looking partnership, contributing to peace, prosperity and development in both countries and in the wider Global South.
