The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee appointed Shri Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister when Shri Modi called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on the afternoon of 20th May 2014.

The President’s decision came after a delegation of NDA leaders, led by Shri LK Advani ji, met the President and staked claim to form the next Government handing over the BJP Parliamentary party resolution electing Shri Modi as the leader and letters of support from the allies. The NDA delegation included Shri Prakash Singh Badal, Shri Rajnath Singh, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri Arun Jaitley, Shri Uddhav Thackeray, Shri Chandrababu Naidu, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, and Shri Rio.
