പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ശ്രീ.നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി തിങ്കളാഴ്ച ഉച്ചതിരിഞ്ഞ് വാഷിങ്ടണ് ഡി.സിയിലെത്തി. അര്ലിങ്ടണ് സെമിത്തേരിയില് അജ്ഞാതനായ സൈനികന്റെ ശവകുടീരത്തില് അദ്ദേഹം പുഷ്പചക്രം അര്പ്പിച്ചു.
കൊളംബിയ ബഹിരാകാശപേട സ്മാരകത്തിലും പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിപുഷ്പചക്രം അര്പ്പിച്ചു. കൊളംബിയ ദുരന്തത്തില് മരണമടഞ്ഞ ബഹിരാകാശ യാത്രിക കല്പനാ ചൗളയുടെ ഭര്ത്താവ് ജീന് പിയറി ഹാരിസണ് തദവസരത്തില് സന്നിഹിതനായിരുന്നു. ബഹിരാകാശ യാത്രിക സുനിതാ വില്യംസും ചടങ്ങില് സംബന്ധിച്ചു.
ഇന്ത്യയില് നിന്നുള്ള വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള് തിരിച്ചുനല്കുന്ന ഒരു ചടങ്ങിലും പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പങ്കെടുത്തു. ഇത്തരം 200 ഓളം കരകൗശല വസ്തുക്കള് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് തിരിച്ച് നല്കാനുള്ള പ്രക്രിയ ആരംഭിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞതായും ഇതിനകംതന്നെ 12 എണ്ണം തിരിച്ചുനല്കിയിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും യു.എസ് അറ്റോര്ണി ജനറല് ലോറെത്താ ലിഞ്ച് പറഞ്ഞു. പൈതൃകം എന്നത് രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെ ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ശക്തിയാക്കിമാറ്റാമെന്ന് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. ചിലര് ഈ കരകൗശല വസ്തുക്കള്ക്ക് പണം അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയായിരിക്കും മൂല്യം നിശ്ചയിക്കുകയെന്നും എന്നാല് ഇന്ത്യക്ക് അതിന്റെ മൂല്യം അതിനുമപ്പുറമാണെന്നും അതിന് കാരണം അവ നമ്മുടെ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെയും പൈതൃകത്തിന്റെയും ഭാഗമായതുകൊണ്ടാണെന്നും പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു.
ബ്രൂക്കിങ് ഇന്സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂഷന്, അറ്റ്ലാന്റിക് കൗണ്സില്, കാര്നെഗി എന്ഡോവ്മെന്റ് ഫോര് ഇന്റര്നാഷണല് പീസ് എന്നിവയടക്കമുള്ള ഉപദേശക/ സഹായക സംഘടനകളുമായി പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ആശയവിനിമയം നടത്തി.
